The Co Lab organized six salons with the Smithsonian at the First Earth Optimism Summit around priority issues for local teens on the following topics:

Drinking Water (Anacostia Community Museum with local schools)
UpCycle and Hydroponic Towers (Latin School/Arlington youth/Fairmont Heights PC County, Kenya schools)
Electric School Bus (LearnServe Student/Woodrow Wilson HS)
Engaging Youth on Climate Change (Alliance for Climate Change/DC International School)
Teen Environmental Leadership (Lab School, Fairfax Co Public Schools, and Green Schools Alliance)
Networking with Ghana on Battery Development (Eleanor Roosevelt High School, PG county, Kentucky school, Ghana schools).

Russell Corbin from Learnserve had this to say about his salon on electric school buses:

Thanks again for everything, it truly was an incredible opportunity. The salon discussion about electric school buses I led at the Smithsonian Earth Optimism Summit was an incredible opportunity for me as well as the participants in the conversation. I was able to dig deep into the very specific environmental initiative I am working on creating and brainstorm ideas regarding obstacles, implementation and important next steps from a group of people with a variety of backgrounds. Additionally I was able to make great connections in the fields I am working in. The other members of the salon dove into an interesting and important topic that they might not have considered previously.  I firmly believe the LearnServe program would benefit from a partnership with the Global Co Lab and hopefully lead to future salon discussions.
